High School Students Visit Marywood UniversityNovember 5, 2026Bridging High School and Higher Education: Western Wayne Students Experience College Life at Marywood University
On Tuesday, October 27th, students from Western Wayne High School’s Child Development program visited Marywood University for an immersive look at college academics, campus culture, and career pathways in education. Guided by Colleen Campbell, MAT, Field Director at Marywood’s School of Education, the visit offered students direct exposure to university life and expectations.
Inside the Classroom & Campus Community
The morning began in McGowan Hall, where students joined two active college education classes. Sitting in on the university lectures, revealing a collaborative and supportive atmosphere.
“The most interesting part of sitting in on a live college class was how lively the class was compared to high school classes,” shared senior Aiden Albert. “This experience made me realize college is filled with more specific courses than what were offered in our high school.” Holly Kellogg added, “My favorite part was how everyone communicated and treated each other with respect.”
The visit also featured a GooseChase campus scavenger hunt organized by university hosts, blending active exploration with friendly competition. “The experience was different than I expected because it was more interactive than I thought a college class would be,” noted Danika Duffy. “The trip gave me a better idea of what to expect after high school and made me more excited about my future!”
Exploring Campus Culture & Inspiring Pathways
Following classroom activities, members of the MUSE Education Club led a campus tour highlighting key student hubs, including the library and dining facilities.
“The library impressed me so much! The way it is set up is amazing,” remarked Aliyah Gregory. Ava Karabuber echoed this enthusiasm: “I liked how there were different floor levels to accommodate people’s ways of studying based on volume level… Seeing all the kids studying made me realize that college and studying is very important.”
The tour concluded with lunch at the Marywood Dining Hall, where students experienced everyday campus dining firsthand. Throughout the day, the strong sense of community left a lasting impression. “My favorite part was seeing how everyone bonded in the classroom and how welcoming everyone made me feel,” said Ava. “It proves that they have made Marywood their home and helps me believe that it is all going to work out.”
Ultimately, the trip achieved its core goal: inspiring students to envision their own goals after high school. “This trip influenced my idea on further becoming an early childhood teacher,” stated Holly Kellogg.
Western Wayne High School extends its sincere gratitude to Colleen Campbell, MAT, the MUSE Education Club, and Marywood University for providing our students with such a welcoming and valuable educational experience.

Band Celebrates Halloween with Young and OldOctober 30, 2026The Western Wayne High School Marching Band took their show on the road for Halloween festivities on Thursday, Oct. 29.
First, the students gave a performance to elementary students in the district at the R.D. Wilson School and on the same day, they performed in the community at the Wayne Woodlands and Julia Ribaudo Nursing Homes. They also included in their day a performance for the Western Wayne Middle School and Evergreen Elementary School as well.
The band students were thrilled to be able to perform for these very special audiences. All of the students and nursing home residents who got to see the performances felt a lot of Halloween spirit.
“I am so grateful to be able to go out and perform in the community,” senior Emma DeNunzio, color guard captain said. “It adds another layer to our performances, and we get to have such fun experiences with new audiences.”
Fellow senior color guard captain student Molly French agreed.
“It was so wonderful to be able to go out into the community for our Halloween performances,” Molly said. “I really enjoy performing for various audiences.”
