“Kiddie Litter Club” to keep the school playground area beautiful.

EverGreen Elementary students Kayla Oddo and Phoebe Schmitt have founded a new club in third grade. The students created the “Kiddie Litter Club” to keep the school playground area beautiful. Kayla and Phoebe are recruiting other students to help them pick up any stray litter they find while playing outside, and encouraging others to do so. “We want to help the environment, and keep it safe for animals,” Oddo said. “And we want to have a nice place for students to play,” added Schmitt.

Kayla also initiated a “Good Things for Life” suggestion canister in her classroom. She decorated a can and asks students to submit their suggestions on how kids can help keep their environment clean and safe.

Schmitt enjoys art and baking. She recently made Red Velvet cupcakes from scratch for her classmates.

District-wide toy / food drive – Western Wayne High School National Honor Society

The Western Wayne High School National Honor Society hosted a district-wide toy and food drive. The Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau will benefit from the toys donated. The Honor Society will also donate 647 dollars, raised from a dress down day, to the Christmas Bureau. Half of the food collected will go to the Wayne County Food Pantry and the other half will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Scranton via the Wayne County Farm Bureau. The donations will be made before the Christmas holiday. Inaugural class of the Junior Leadership Northern Poconos

From left: Mallory Jablon, Lilli Millon, Abigail Zeiler, Caitlin Falloon, and Morgan Amorine will be representing Western Wayne High School as members of the inaugural class of the Junior Leadership Northern Poconos sponsored by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. Through this opportunity, they will work with students from Forest City, Wallenpaupack Area, and Wayne Highlands to learn about the region, develop leadership skills, and complete a culminating project that will benefit the area.

Western Wayne National Energy Contest

2nd Annual Turkey Trot – Robert D. Wilson

Robert D. Wilson’s student body and staff recently completed the 2nd Annual Turkey Trot.

All members enjoyed the beautiful outside weather as they completed a number of physical fitness stations, each with a different physical activity. It is our mission to learn to balance the academics of school with physical well-being while developing social relationships. Join us by setting schedules for sufficient rest or sleep, (8-10 hours per night), eating a well-balanced diet and attending school regularly.

Girl Scout Troop #50256 – Bathrobe Drive

Girl Scout Troop #50256 at EverGreen Elementary of the Western Wayne School District is giving back to their community! This incredible group of young ladies is having a bathrobe drive that will keep the residents of Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home warm and cozy this winter. The girls were doing volunteer hours at the nursing home and noticed many residents without robes so they decided to start a bathrobe drive to get them robes. The girls are looking to collect 100 robes for the residents before Christmas.

Western Wayne High School Students THINK ENERGY!

On October 20^th Western Wayne High School Students in grade 9 experienced the THINK! ENERGY Innovation Program. This program is an interactive, hands-on presentation with a take home energy efficiency kit for each participating student and teacher. The program teaches the importance of energy, natural resources and environmental resources, and gives each participating student’s family energy-efficient technologies to install at home. Students and Staff in the high school received innovation kits on October 21^st. The kits included three LED light bulbs, shower timer, a water conserving shower head and faucet aerator as well a smart energy power strip. 160 innovation kits were distributed overall. This comes to 480 new LED bulbs distributed to the Western Wayne School District. This program will also result in a number of mini grants for the teachers in the high school as well. The Think Energy Innovation Program has been brought to the schools by the National Energy Foundation, PPL Electric Utilities and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
