Western Wayne School District is a member of the Wayne County Consortium for Special Education.
The Consortium encompasses Western Wayne School District, Wayne Highlands School District and Wallenpaupack Area School District. We are dedicated to providing a continuum of services in the least restrictive environment. The consortium shares low incidence classrooms and related services staff. While we strive to keep our children within their neighborhood schools, each district maintains specialized services with highly trained staff for our children in need of temporary intensive instruction. Western Wayne School District participates in the Pa. Verbal Behavior (VB) Project, with three VB classrooms. Western Wayne maintains a continuum of options for all special needs students.

The Western Wayne Gifted curriculum focuses on complex and in-depth study of major ideas, key concepts and themes that integrate knowledge within and across disciplines.
Curricula for the gifted students are an extension of core learning, using both acceleration and enrichment strategies. Academic needs, identified annually through the review of standardized test data, drive each child’s individualized education plan. The Western Wayne School District demands high quality student work and performance demonstration through high-level thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills as set forth in the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. Rubrics based on the PA State Standards are employed to assess goal achievement in the GIEP.

ECO CAMP – EXPLORING CAREERS OUTDOORS
Where can a high school student experience a variety of outdoor careers? Where can you learn first-hand about the job of a forester, geologist or park manager? Where can you have a great time meeting new friends while enjoying outdoor recreation activities in Pennsylvania state parks and forests?
What is ECO Camp?
ECO Camp, Exploring Careers Outdoors, is a week-long residential camp for high school students focusing on outdoor careers in recreation, conservation and natural resources. Professional staff from DCNR including state parks, geology and forestry, act as counselors and educators, exposing students to a variety of careers and outdoor recreation activities while interacting with students on a daily basis.
