Early Intervention

WHAT IS EARLY INTERVENTION?

Early Intervention (EI) offers services and support to families with children who have developmental delays. The Wayne County Consortium offers EI support for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Children grow and change at their own rate, therefore, some children experience delays in their development. Preschool Early Intervention services provide support to children and their families/caregivers/ guardians to help children grow and develop.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Children who live within the Wayne County Consortium who have special needs due to a developmental delay or diagnosis are eligible for EI services. Eligibility is also determined upon completion of an evaluation report by the EI team.

IF YOUR CHILD IS ALREADY ATTENDING AN EARLY CHILD CARE OR PRESCHOOL SETTING…

EI teachers, therapists and specialists will assist the early childhood staff with strategies to help promote your child’s development.

Early Intervention can also help families find a variety of community services and supports.

WHAT ARE EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES AND SUPPORTS?

Early Intervention (EI) services and supports are offered to families at no cost. Early Intervention services may include: information on how children develop in their skills and abilities, educational information and support for parents/ caregivers/ guardians and/or specially designed instruction delivered by a therapist or teacher.

The Wayne County Consortium for Early Intervention offers two classrooms within the Western Wayne School District. These classrooms are located at Robert D. Wilson and Evergreen Elementary.
