EverGreen Elementary Hosted Event for Fire Prevention Week

Chief Koch and his firefighters from Hamlin Fire & Rescue were at Western Wayne’s EverGreen Elementary on Friday, October 6, to discuss fire prevention and safety with all students. Students were able to see fire fighters in their turn-out gear, different tools used to fight fires, different pieces of equipment used at fire scenes, and they were able to walk through the smoke house set up at the school as a simulation. Through this presentation, students learned valuable lessons that they will be able use to in their lives. In preparation of this event, teachers asked their students to write essays about Fire Prevention and Safety. Two students won the essay contest and received bikes as their prizes. 1. It was a wonderful day, myself and the rest of the firefighters from Hamlin look forward to this every year. Congratulations again to the winners of the essay contest. The essays were very detailed and on point. These essays let us know that these children are really understanding the importance of fire prevention.
On behalf of myself and the rest of the members in attendance that day. Thank you for having us come in and teach your students for the day.
    Thank you Chief Gene Koch
